JDSU PacketPortal CONNECT to spur application expansion
JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU) (TSX: JDU) has unveiled PacketPortal CONNECT, a global partner program aimed at channel partners, system integrators, and application developers who could create new applications for JDSU’s PacketPortal network monitoring and management system.
Introduced this past February, the cloud-based PacketPortal uses sensors in network edge devices to collect data and send it to a centralized data base, where applications can mine the data for a variety of purposes The sensor, housed, in devices such as optical transceivers, can be placed in a variety of edge devices, such as mobile base stations, switches and routers, and remote enterprise equipment.
While JDSU announced several applications when it first introduced PacketPortal, the company envisioned users and third parties would create applications as well. PacketPortal CONNECT seeks to accelerate this process by creating an online ecosystem of developers, domain and solution expertise, and ongoing sales and marketing support.
By way of example, JDSU also announced that Empirix as a member of the PacketPortal CONNECT program. JDSU says that Empirix will be able to use data collected via PacketPortal to improve the performance of the Empirix fixed line service assurance offering through the provision of additional intelligence.
