Finisar demonstrates 10G SFP transceivers at ECOC 2006
Finisar's 850-nm 10G SFP transceiver is designed in accordance with the emerging SFP+ standard, currently being developed by the Small Form Factor Committee. It is similar in size to current 1.25-Gbit/sec SFP transceivers while operating at 10.3 Gbits/sec with a power dissipation of less than 1 W."Our customers have come to rely on Finisar as a technology leader in high-speed optical communications and we are committed to delivering innovative products to meet their needs," said Christian Urricariet, marketing director for high-speed optics at Finisar. "As the world's largest supplier of SFP optical transceivers in the world, we look forward to broadening our SFP portfolio into 10G."Finisar also is showing its latest 40-Gbit/sec short-reach transponder, which provides high-speed optical transport with exceptionally low jitter generation and outstanding receiver sensitivity performance, according to the company. The transponder supports VSR client-side applications for systems such as core routers and SONET/SDH transmission equipment.

Avago intros new dual-rate SFP+ transceivers for 10 Gigabit Ethernet
Both the AFCT-701SDDZ and AFBR-703SDDZ SFP+ transceivers are Halogen-free and comply with the International Electrochemical Commission (IEC) 61249-2-21 specifications aimed at protecting the environment, as well as by applications with enhanced fire safety needs. These transceivers are also compliant with the Halogen-free specifications as defined by industry organizations such as JPCA, IPC, and iNEMI.Avago’s AFCT-701SDDZ is a 10/1-Gbps LR transceiver for operation in singlemode fiber link applications for distances of up to 10 km. It complies with the optical interface specification per IEEE 802.3ae 10GBASE-LR standards and with the transmitter extinction ratio and receiver sensitivity specifications at 1.25 Gbps per 1000Base-LX. The transceiver is manufactured with Avago’s 1310-nm DFB laser and PIN detector technology. Avago’s AFCT-701SDDZ is an addition to the previously released 10-Gbps ACFT-701SDZ, which operates at case temperatures in the commercial range from 0 to 70-degrees Celsius while maintaining maximum power dissipation of less than 1 W.The AFBR-703SDDZ is a 10/1-Gbps SR transceiver for operation in OM3 multimode fiber link applications for distances of up to 300 m. The transceiver incorporates Avago’s 850-nm VCSEL and PIN detector technology to provide an IEEE 10-Gbps Ethernet design that is compliant with the 10GBase-SR standard, and with the transmitter extinction ratio and receiver sensitivity specifications at 1.25 Gbps per 1000Base-SX. The AFBR-703SDDZ transceiver is an addition to the previously released 10-Gbps AFBR-703SDZ and is also designed to operate in case temperatures ranging from 0 to 70-degrees Celsius to enable 10-Gbps Ethernet equipment designs with high port density.

Bookham announces 5-Gbit/sec DWDM SFP
The transceiver, which Bookham believes to be the fastest DWDM SFP module available, is designed to operate in high-noise, amplified environments and is targeted at multi-span links for metro networks. The module can deliver output power from +3 dBm to +6 dBm, has channel spacing of 100-GHz, and offers full C- and L-band coverage.Bookham says it has also achieved an uncompensated reach of 400 km at 2.5 Gbits/sec with a multi-rate DWDM SFP, continuing the evolution of the company's high-performance pluggable product range. The portfolio offers DWDM options for all transmission speeds and network protocols, including Ethernet, Fiber Channel, and SONET/SDH. All designs are underpinned by the same proven optical engines, says the company, including the Bookham Avalanche Photodiode (APD) receiver and buried-heterostructure directly-modulated laser."We are continually developing the performance of our pluggable modules to retain our leading technology position in the pluggable WDM sector and meet the breadth of demands from our customer base," reports vice president of telecom sales Yves Le Maitre. "Boasting the highest speed and the longest reach in SFP WDM pluggable optics, coupled with outstanding stability and tolerance to low OSNR links, is a great achievement for the design team. We are confident that we can continue to grow our market share in this highly competitive space."
In addition to these transceivers, the Bookham WDM SFP portfolio offers standard optical power devices in both multi-protocol (SONET, Ethernet, and 4-Gbit/sec Fiber Channel) and multi-rate (100-Mbit/sec to 2.7-Gbit/sec) variants as well as equivalent versions with higher optical power levels (5.5 dBm typical). All these parts are available in C- and L-band wavelengths. For 4-Gbit/sec Fiber Channel applications, Bookham says it has specific DWDM and CWDM parts targeted at 80-km point-to-point links. According to company representatives, this wide range ensures that Bookham is able to meet the demands of customers operating all WDM systems based on pluggable optics.
